Frequently asked questions about
the Global Alumni Symposium.

NBS will be live streaming the weekend’s program from the Betty Oliphant Theatre.  Alumni who cannot join in person will have the opportunity to sign into our capture portal and watch the live stream.

Participants will be able to use the text chat feature to connect with other alumni from around the world and ask questions of our panel participants.  A moderator will forward questions from the text discussion to the panel for their responses.

For anyone who cannot watch the live stream in real time, on-demand videos of the panel discussions will be available the day after the panel discussion occurs (ie. Friday’s events will be available on Saturday).

Alumni watching the on-demand videos are still invited to comment in the discussion online, however, it may take us slightly longer to respond.

Some groups of virtual participants are organising viewing parties with other alumni in their cities.  If you would like to participate in one of these groups – or organise one yourself – please check the website for events near you or for more information.

How to Participating Virtually

Our portal through which you can watch the livestream and captured Symposium panels is now built. Kevin MacLeod, NBS’ Manager, Digital Media and Learning Technologies has put together a video describing how to set up an account.

There will be an alumni reception, hosted by NBS at the School, on Saturday, May 21st from 5:30-7:30PM. We selected this time so alumni could also arrange special gatherings for themselves, specifically linked to the years they were at NBS.

Some class reps also are organising 'class-centred' dinners on the Friday evening, May 20th.
The moderators will connect with their panellists in January, 2016, to build the content. As the intent is to allow each moderator to be true to their own style, some may choose to publicise questions in advance; and others may not.
The Symposium is being offered to Alumni free of charge. This decision was made in light of the fact that Alumni choosing to travel to Toronto will have travel and accommodation costs- in addition to their meals. As well, at the Saturday, May 21st reception (from 5:30- 7:30PM), while snacks and beverages will be provided, there will be a charge for alcoholic beverages.
For anyone who cannot watch the live stream in real time, on-demand videos of the panel discussions will be available the day after the panel discussion occurs (ie. Friday’s events will be available on Saturday).

The Friday tour of NBS, and the observation of ballet classes, will not be live-streamed. The Saturday afternoon workshop with current students; and their rehearsal of John Neumeier's ballet Yondering - created 20 years ago on NBS students - will be live streamed.
