Five dance students practice at the barre while their instructor assists one of them.

Canada’s National Ballet School (NBS) has arrangements with both York University (Toronto, ON) and Simon Fraser University (SFU) (Vancouver, BC) to allow students to gain both an NBS Teaching Diploma from the Teacher Training Program (TTP) and an undergraduate degree from these institutions. While the structure of both programs is similar, the content varies considerably.

In both cases, students have the option of first spending three years at York or SFU, then joining NBS for two years.   Alternatively, students can complete the Three-Year Diploma Program at NBS, then join York or SFU to complete their studies towards an undergraduate degree.

Accreditation

York University graduates receive the NBS Diploma (TTP(Dip) – NBS) as well as a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA). SFU graduates also receive the NBS Diploma (TTP(Dip) – NBS), in addition to an undergraduate degree.

Entrance Requirements

Audition and academic requirements for both NBS and either York or SFU must be met for acceptance into these programs. Successful applicants to NBS are invited to register for a four-day assessment held at NBS April 30 - May 3, 2018.
