A Ballet Festival Uniting the World
April 28 – May 4, 2013
In November 2009 as part of NBS' 50th anniversary celebrations, the School brought together thirteen of its partner schools to participate in the first Assemblée Internationale 2009.
This student choreographic festival was an enormous success, bringing professional ballet students from around the world, along with their Artistic Directors and staff to engage, collaborate and celebrate dance. Hosted entirely by NBS with support from Aeroplan, the School was animated with blended ballet classes, rehearsals, new choreography created by students and performances in the Betty Oliphant Theatre.
Deemed a resounding success by all participants, Mavis Staines, NBS' Artistic Director announced a second AI will happen in 2013, running from April 28 – May 4. Including both streams from the first AI (performances based on the participating schools' existing repertoire and a student-created choreographic workshop) as well as introducing a live-streaming performance, the next AI will also see an additional number of schools participating.
Update to AI13
Saturday, May 4 - performance begins at 11.30am
Dear Saturday May 4th Fast Forward Attendee,
The AI 13 Saturday May 4th Choreography: Fast Forward performance is now scheduled to start at 11:30am instead of the originally designated noon start time.
The reasons for this unusual change is to respect an urgent appeal from the Dutch dancers (based in Amsterdam) participating in the live streaming project.
May 4th is Remembrance Day in Holland and the entire country observes two minutes of silence at exactly 2:00pm Toronto time (8:00pm in Holland). By starting our performance at 11:30 (which runs until 1:30), the Dutch contingent feels entirely confident they will not violate this strictly observed tradition.
I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this shift in start times might cause and truly appreciate your understanding of these circumstances. Everyone at NBS looks forward to drawing you into the excitement of this presentation, featuring the marriage of live performance and virtual reality.
With warmest regards & deep appreciation,
Programs & Choreographers
