
Meaghan Alexander
After graduating from Nipissing of University with both her Bachelors of Education and Bachelor of Arts Honours, Meaghan began teaching in a small private school that catered to students with extra learning needs, including young athletes. Meaghan teaches history and geography and is interested in European Medieval and Early Modern History.
Nikki Chabrol
Nikki Chabrol, Academic Administrative Assistant, has been associated with NBS since the early 90's, when he began as a volunteer at special events, such as the annual Gala, Spring Showcase and Music Night. Nikki began working at NBS in 2004 as Marketing Assistant, and then moved to the Shoe Room, before joining the Academic department in 2005.
Jessica Dreisziger
Jessica Dreisziger has been teaching at Canada's National Ballet School since 2004. She teaches biology, chemistry, science and mathematics. Jessica holds an Honours Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Education degree from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.
Johanne du Berger
Johanne du Berger has been a French teacher at NBS since 1990. She holds an Honours BA in French literature and an M.Ed from the University of Toronto. She also works with a reading club for elderly people.
Cheryl Belkin Epstein, B.A., LL.B., M.A.
Cheryl Belkin Epstein trained in ballet in Winnipeg and danced with Winnipeg's Contemporary Dancers and Les Feux-Follets of Montreal. On retiring from dance, she returned to school and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1981. She practiced corporate law at McCarthy & McCarthy in Toronto until 1983 and later, while living abroad, worked in the Legal Department of the Bank of Israel and did freelance legal editing and writing in Morocco and France.
Upon returning to Canada after a lengthy absence, she began the study of dance history at Canada's National Ballet School. She continued to pursue these studies at York University where she obtained a MA in Dance. She currently teaches ballet history at NBS and at Ryerson University.
While practicing law in Toronto, she served as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Ballet School and in Paris served on the Arts Committee of WICE (the Women's Institute for Continuing Education). She currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Toronto Summer Music Foundation.
Lisa Fleischmann
As the academic photography teacher and Yearbook Coordinator for NBS seniors, Lisa Fleischmann applies her multidisciplinary background from the creative industry and the area of team leadership. Formally educated in communication design and photography at the Ontario College of Art and Design, Lisa also holds credits with Harvard University for her time studying archaeological photography in Israel. With more than 20 years of experience as a graphic designer, photo retoucher, and documentary & entertainment photographer, her work has taken her to South America, Europe, the Middle East, and across Canada. As an Adobe Expert, she has taught advanced print design at a number of Toronto colleges and is excited to bring her diverse talents to the staff and students of NBS.
David Gamble
David Gamble came to NBS in the fall of 2004 to pursue teaching in a very special environment. Having begun teaching at the age of 21 in 1967, he spent 33 years with the public board, and four years part-time at University of Toronto Schools. He served in many positions of responsibility, including assistant head of English, head of English and acting vice-principal. David's volunteer service in the schools has included years of drama club theatre productions, reunion shows, conflict-resolution implementation programs, curriculum and assessment conferences, and board-wide anti-homophobia policy and protocol development programs with the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board.
He has also done community volunteering in theatre groups, collective bookstores and police liaison committees. By coming to NBS, David has furthered his opportunities to follow his passion of teaching and learning with an exceptional group of people.
Rosalind Goss
Rosalind Goss studied at the University of Toronto and the Ontario College of Art. From 1981 to 1989, she taught with the Toronto Board of Education and the Ontario Arts Council. Since 1989, Rosalind has been teaching art to students in grades 9 - 12 at NBS. In addition to teaching, Rosalind is a practicing artist, and has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in Toronto over the past 30 years.
John Lamb
John Lamb began teaching in 1977. During his first years he taught English at several Toronto area secondary schools. In the following seven years he chaired the Gifted Programme at St. Andrew's JHS. John spent his remaining years in the public system at Earl Haig Secondary School/Claude Watson School for the Arts where he held several positions of responsibility. These included Assistant Head of English and Curriculum Leader of Special Programmes: Gifted and Special Education. He also piloted the Student Success Programme. John is enjoying the challenges and rewards of teaching at NBS.
David Lipinski
David Lipinski began teaching senior Math at NBS in the year 2010, and in 2011 started teaching intermediate Science as well. He graduated from York University, doing both his undergraduate program and teacher training there. In his spare time he enjoys creative writing, playing basketball and long walks on the beach.
Michael Locke
In 1999 Michael Locke joined the academic staff at NBS to teach a variety of middle school subjects as well as ESL. Subsequently, he became the teacher-librarian and co-managed the professional ballet/academic library while developing and teaching the School's information studies curriculum. In the role of teacher-librarian, Michael had the opportunity to exercise his interest in the development of information literacy – the knowledge and skills required to effectively find, evaluate and work with information. Michael has since returned to the classroom full time in grade 6 and middle school.
Before coming to NBS, Michael worked for three years for the Pikangikum First Nation Education Authority at a remote fly-in Ojibwe community in northern Ontario. There he taught primary school and high school art. Michael has a BFA in visual arts from York University and a B.Ed. from the University of Toronto. He has additional teaching qualifications in special education, junior education and teacher-librarianship.
Charles Lynn McIntosh
Charles Lynn McIntosh is a graduate of Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario and holds a BA, a B.Ed. and an M.Ed. Throughout his career he has taught in Canada, England and Russia. He joined the staff in January 1976. He has taught grade 5 – 10 math and geography and currently teaches math and geography to students in grades seven, eight and nine and grade 11 math for everyday life.
Sondra McGregor
Sondra McGregor has been a librarian at NBS for since 2003. She holds a BA from the University of Toronto and a diploma in library science from Ryerson University. Before joining the NBS faculty, she worked at the Maclean's magazine library and at the E. J. Pratt Library at Victoria University at the University of Toronto.
Deborah Meadley
Currently the Academic Vice-Principal at NBS, Deb is also the academic Guidance Counsellor and Grade 10 Career Studies teacher. She joined NBS as its first ESL and Resource teacher in 1988 and has taught a variety of subjects since then. She has a B.Sc. in Psychology and a B.Ed., both from the University of Toronto, and an M.Ed. from Acadia University. Before coming to NBS, Deb taught in independent schools in Tokyo and Athens and had teaching contracts in community colleges in Toronto. She has also designed and delivered ESL, business and cross-cultural communications training programs for corporations in Toronto and Tokyo.
Annarita Primier
Annarita Primier currently serves as the FSL (French as a Second Language) teacher at NBS. She has a background in languages and literature, having completed an MA at the Centre for Comparative Literature at the University of Toronto. Currently, she is completing work on her PhD thesis on the works of Umberto Eco. Annarita also has a background in editing, having founded Transverse: a Comparative Studies Journal where she served as both chief editor and designer for three years. She has had the opportunity to work as a researcher/transcriber for a Faust anthology, and on a virtual exchange with the University of Alberta.
Annarita has also worked as a teacher's assistant at the Cinema Studies program at the University of Toronto. She has contributed her time as Vice President and Social Representative of the Comparative Literature Student Union, and has developed, chaired, and lectured at various conferences throughout Canada and Europe.
Dr. Margot Rejskind
Dr. Margot Rejskind has been teaching music at NBS since 2007.
A native of Montreal, Dr. Rejskind earned her Masters and Doctoral degrees in Choral Conducting and Vocal Pedagogy from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champain, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Voice Performance from Concordia University. She has directed ensembles of all types in both Canada and the United States, and her choirs have been heard around the world, most notably on the CBC, BBC, and National Public Radio.
In addition to her work at NBS, Dr. Rejskind also serves as Director of Choirs for the Royal Conservatory of Music, and as Music Director for The Bell'Arte Singers and Men of Note Male Voice Choir.
Ellen Smee
Ellen Smee joined NBS in 2007 after a lengthy career at the Royal Conservatory of Music, where she taught
pedagogy and group classes to students of all ages, from infants and toddlers to experienced teachers. At NBS she teaches music to grades 6 through 12, employing a unique curriculum of singing, rhythmic skills, ear training, directed listening, and simple movement to develop a thorough understanding of all aspects of music. Ellen has a Bachelor of Music in School Music and a graduate certificate in the Kodály Concept of Music Education from the University of Calgary.
Rachel Taylor
Rachel Taylor has been teaching History of Art at NBS since 2008. She has a BA and MA in Fine Art History from the University of Toronto. She has worked as a researcher, writer and educator at various museums, including the Royal Ontario Museum, and currently works in the Education Department at the Art Gallery of Ontario. Previous teaching experiences include the British Council in Nairobi, Kenya, and St. Claire's International College in Oxford, UK. Rachel is a graduate of the professional program at NBS.
Sokny Ung
Sokny Ung joined Canada's National Ballet School’s academic teaching staff as a Resource Teacher in September of 2011. Sokny holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Education degree from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. Sokny started her teaching career at a private high school in Wuqing, China. The high school offers a dual diploma program where the students are taking both Chinese and Ontario courses.
Sokny is trained as a public facilitator and have trained over 400 youths of diverse backgrounds in various skills of peace building, leadership and conflict resolution. She has additional teaching qualifications in special education and English as a Second Language.
Neil Walsh
After completing his university studies, Neil Walsh embarked on a short but brilliant (he says) career in professional theatre. A few years later, he was offered a position teaching mathematics at a Canadian private school in Switzerland, where he discovered his true calling. He now has over 35 years experience in both the public and independent school systems as a teacher and administrator. He joined NBS in 2003, and was most recently Vice-Principal, Academic Operations, and a teacher of senior mathematics and physics. He was appointed to the position of Academic Principal in September 2010.
Katherine Woodward
Katherine Woodward started working at NBS in 2009 teaching math and science. Katherine has a Bachelor of Education from Queen's University and an Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Toronto. Before working at NBS, Katherine worked as an Engineer consulting on SAP systems. She spends her summers working at the University of Toronto teaching for DEEP (DaVinci Engineering Enrichment Program) where she teaches gifted students advanced materials in Engineering and Science.
Joyce Zhu
Joyce Zhu joined Canada's National Ballet School’s academic teaching staff in 2009. Currently she teaches ESL, English, and the Ontario Literacy Course. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Science degree with a specialization in Biochemistry from Queen’s University, a Bachelor of Education degree from Queen’s University, and a Master of Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. During her time at Queen’s, Joyce was involved in student accessibility and mental health issues, local elementary schools, the Queen’s International Centre and was treasurer of both the Education Student Society and the Biochemistry Department Student Council. Her passion in school affairs has continued at NBS, where she advises the student council.
