National Audition Tour Registration is Now Open
Registration for the 2014/15 National Audition Tour, presented by Sun Life Financial as part of their Making the Arts More Accessible� program, is now open. Registration for both open classes and auditions can be done online by visiting NBS� website at www.nbs-enb.ca. Culture Days are this weekend!
NBS is proud to participate in the 2014 Culture Days event happening September 27 and 28. Observation classes will be in the Betty Oliphant Theatre, 404 Jarvis Street on Saturday, from 10am � 12:45pm and don�t require registration. Ballet classes will be held on Sunday, 400 Jarvis Street. Adult Ballet Program
Our 9 Week Intro to Ballet class begins Sunday, October 19. Registration is open online. Join us for 9 weeks and get geared up for full classes in Term II.
Associates Program
AP classes will not be running over Thanksgiving weekend, October 10th to 13th inclusive. Pointe classes start immediately following Thanksgiving weekend. Be sure to book your pointe shoe fitting at The Shoe Room!
Nutcracker auditions
Students with a background in dance and who are in grades 8 and up may audition for roles in the Act 1 Battle Scene of The National Ballet of Canada�s The Nutcracker. Registration begins at 12:00 pm on Sunday, October 5, with auditions starting at 1:00 pm and ending at 4:00 pm. More Information.
Creative Dance for the Very Young, October 26
Mary Ann Lee, Director of the Virginia Tanner Creative Dance Program and the Children�s Dance Theatre at the University of Utah will give two demonstration classes and workshops on Sunday, October 26, 10am � 1pm and 2 � 5pm. One is for 2 � - 3 � years, the other for 4 � 5 year olds. Check the website for registration information.
Introducing the First Position Patrons
First Position Patrons (FPP) is an exciting new union of like-minded young professionals with a shared desire to inspire future dance enthusiasts and supporters for NBS. The vision of the FPP is to establish a formal collective for the next generation of patrons to the School, focusing on dance in all aspects of NBS life. Learn more.
The Play Exchange
NBS is excited to announce that Sharing Dance, has been selected as one of six finalists for The Play Exchange. As a finalist in the challenge, NBS will receive support from LIFT Philanthropy Partners (LIFT), valued at $30,000 to develop a business plan for the idea. NBS will also be featured in a national television program profiling all six of The Play Exchange finalists to be aired on CBC in January 2015.
Fall Observation & Inside NBS Session
Wednesday, October 22, 2014 � Benefactor level donors and above are invited to join us for the first Observation Experience of the 14/15 year � your chance to see NBS' talented students training in studio. Cineplex Front Row Centre Dance Series
Once again, NBS is partnering with Cineplex�s FRCDS. Short videos showing aspects of NBS will be seen with their films, starting in October. Check the Cineplex website for showings.
