On June 4, 2022, we opened our doors to more than 1,000 people from the community for our inaugural Block Party!

Canada’s National Ballet School’s (NBS) Block Party, an open house with a festival feel, brought together people from across the Greater Toronto Area for a day of family-friendly activities and performances to celebrate the power of dance and community.

Our Block Party welcomed the community to engage with our campus in exciting new ways as they completed a scavenger hunt, participated in an Afro Fusion dance class, watched live student rehearsals, and more. Students from NBS’ breadth of programming danced alongside staff, donors, neighbours, and people from the wider community–some of whom were experiencing our organization for the very first time!

A keystone event of Dancing Opens Doors—the principal fundraising campaign for Canada’s National Ballet School over the next three years—our Block Party showcased the many opportunities that dance creates.

“Dancing opens doors to a deeply exciting range of opportunities. This Block Party is part of our vision to open NBS’ doors to the wider community and make the power of dance accessible for everyone,” said Mavis Staines, NBS’ Artistic Director and CEO.

Take a look at our photo album on Facebook to see some of the photos from the event or watch a special highlights video below. You might even catch a glimpse of yourself dancing!
