Welcome to Canada's National Ballet School's (NBS) Adult Ballet community! Although we may not be dancing together in the studios at 400 Jarvis Street at the moment, we hope you will join us through the power of technology, and bring the joy of dance into your home.
As we all navigate these unfamiliar circumstances, we want to help you find creative ways to keep dancing. We are excited to announce a special 4-week online adult ballet summer term taught by NBS’ Ballet Bob and accompanied by musician Bob Ashley. We are excited to reconnect with our adult ballet community and dance together through the power of technology!
Classes will take place on Zoom, with the term beginning July 20. The following classes will be offered:
Level I/II (Advanced Beginner): Mondays, 7pm to 8:15pm EST
Level III/IV (Intermediate): Tuesdays, 7pm to 8:15pm EST
Level II/III (Elementary): Wednesdays, 7pm to 8:15pm EST
How it Works
- Term Length: 4 weeks (1 class per week)
- Fee: $52.00
- Instructor: Robert McCollum (Ballet Bob)
- Musician: Bob Ashley
- The classes will take place via Zoom—a popular video conferencing platform.
- The Zoom link will be shared with registrants before class. Please keep this link private.
- The viewing focus for Zoom classes and recordings will be on NBS staff and general corrections will be given to the group as a whole, rather than to individual dancers.
- Registrants will receive further instructions, as well as some helpful tips before the term begins on July 20.
If you miss your live class or would like to repeat the class at your leisure, each class will be recorded and will remain online for dancers to access for one week. At that point, the video will be replaced by video from the following class.

Below you will find a selection of free adult ballet resources including online classes, as well as shorter videos. We hope you will enjoy these resources and share them with anyone you know who may benefit from dance during these challenging times.
Designed for the advanced beginner, this class is best suited for dancers with a basic understanding of the fundamentals of ballet technique. This class will go deeper into the work and aesthetics of ballet with longer barre exercises and varied arm positions.

Designed for the Intermediate dancer, this class moves the dancer to the next level of accomplishment with more intricate and detailed combinations.
Taught by NBS Artistic Staff members Phillip Payne, Katharine Garrett and Jillian Peever. These classes feature music by NBS Principal Pianist Marina Surgan and NBS Musician Craig Wingrove. Marina's CDs are available at The Shoe Room and Craig's music is available on Spotify.
