NBS’ part-time Continuing Professional Development Program (CPD) offers dance teachers the opportunity to further invest in their practice, embrace the opportunity for lifelong learning and add to their teaching qualifications.

Contemporary

Darryl Tracy is a Master Teacher based in Toronto. His highly kinetic class infuses modern dance principles (primarily in Limon Technique), alignment, efficiency of movement and performance quality. His class incorporates various choreographic styles leading the participants through a systematic and challenging dance exploration. Darryl is a practicing physiotherapist - he promotes a healthy learning environment to allow all participants the freedom to explore, grow and develop their full potential.

Anatomy

An in-depth study of functional human anatomy as it applies to the needs of the dancer and the dance teacher, providing a basic understanding of the structure and function of the human body.

Ballet Technique

An introductory class designed to familiarize all incoming students with the NBS style and approach to ballet training. Focus is on increasing strength and technical proficiency.

Benesh Movement Notation

Introduces Benesh Dance Notation, emphasizing the abilities to read, write and interpret notated dance.

History of Ballet I

Explores the development of dance from its origins as a form of communication, community celebration and storytelling through its development as the theatrical art form up to the end of the Romantic Period.

Studies the syllabus of the Cecchetti Society. Focuses on developing a technical and stylistic understanding of the material covered in Grades 1-6.

Music I

An introduction to music theory for dance teachers. Emphasizes the skills required to work effectively with a ballet accompanist and to integrate musical forms into practical dance class situations.

Pedagogy I RAD

Studies the syllabus of the Royal Academy of Dance Pre Primary-Grade 5 and Intermediate Foundation. Emphasizes the systemic and logical progression of dance movements in the RAD syllabus.

National Dance Intermediate

This course is based on the syllabus of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing National Branch. In addition to an in depth study of the Intermediate level, participants will also be introduced to a study of the first 2 levels of the Graded syllabus.

NBS Curriculum I

This course is a pedagogy class that explores the curriculum of Canada’s National Ballet School’s Young Dancers Program (YDP) with a focus on the Open Dance stream. T The course involves practicum elements, with participants designing, delivering and providing feedback on exercises and enchainement based on their learning.
