Becoming a Volunteer at NBS

Volunteer requirements:

  • At least 15 years of age (some program areas will require additional qualifications and 18+)

  • Volunteer application form, resume and references 

  • A police check (Volunteers 18+)

  • A positive attitude and willingness to try new things

  • No previous dance or arts admin experience required

General Time Commitment

NBS offers a variety of volunteer opportunities including special events and regular, weekly programming:

General Commitment for Weekly Programs

A commitment of 1 shift per week (approximately 1.5 hours). If volunteering in a weekly dance program the volunteer shift will occur at the same time and day each week for the duration of the term.

General Commitment for Special Events

A commitment of the duration of the event (approximately 3 hours).

General Training Requirements

To be on-boarded onto the volunteer roster each volunteer must complete one initial orientation training session.  Some programs and events will require an additional training session specific to their program/event needs.

Current Opportunities

Dance Class Assistant, Adaptive Dance Program

Join us as a volunteer in our Adaptive Dance program, which offers adapted creative movement classes for children ages 4+ with diverse cognitive, physical and developmental needs. Students and professionals with a mix of skill sets such as; Occupational, Speech, Music or Recreational Therapy or Education and ECE, are encouraged to apply! No previous dance background required.
Volunteer requirements:

  • 16 years of age or older
  • A police check
  • A commitment of 1.5 hours for the term (1 class per week minimum)
  • Volunteer application form and resume. References only upon request.
  • Previous experience working with children with diverse needs is considered an asset

Time Commitment:
September 18th-December 11th on Sunday’s between 9:45am-2:15pm.

Due to COVID-19, in-person volunteer opportunities will be limited during the 2021-2022 school year. All onsite volunteers must participate in the school's COVID-19 screening process and adhere to the personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements. Volunteers will be required to wear a mask for the duration of a volunteer shift. Appropriate PPE and training will be provided by the school. Examples of volunteer opportunities might be; theatre usher, special event support, dance class assistant and administrative tasks.

Application Process

Please note there is no deadline for submitting an application however successful applicants will be offered positions on a first come first serve basis. The NBS Volunteer Department will keep your application on file for the duration of one year and notify you when positions become available. We thank all applicants for their interest. Please note that submitting an application does not guarantee a position. 

All applicants are required to provide:

  • A resume and cover letter 

  • A completed NBS volunteer application form

  • Two non-family references
