Creative Challenge
On June 6, 7 and 14, six NBS students will present free ‘pop-up’ dance performances across Toronto for NBS’ Creative Challenge. Developed from NBS’ AI 13, the Creative Challenge encourages dance artists to collaborate across disciplines, and perform works in unexpected places. Learn about NBS’ Creative Challenge choreographers and help support their efforts.
Spring Showcase a Success
The 2014 Spring Showcase performances were spectacular! With an exciting bill featuring Aurora’s Wedding, staged by Vera Timashova and Alexander Gorbatsevich after Marius Petipa, Robert Binet’s Wave Ring, and Demis Volpi’s Chalkboard Memories, all five shows played to packed and enthusiastic audiences.
NBS Celebrates Artistic Faculty and Staff!
On May 21, NBS celebrated Mavis Staines’ 25 years as NBS Artistic Director. 13 other staff members with over 25 years of service were also cheered on. Here’s to another 25+ years to Mavis Staines, Carina Bomers, Deborah Bowes, Rosalie Deligioridis, Valentina Gurovsky, Deborah Hess, Ludmilla Kozlenko, Flora Lufer, Deborah Meadley, Ron Raymond, Sergiu Stefanschi, Marina Surgan, Betty Tate-Pineau, and Laurel Toto.
The Power to Move Kids, 2014 Global Summit
Students from public schools in Toronto helped kick off the Global Summit on the Physical Activity of Children by performing this year’s Sharing Dance routine at the opening ceremony on May 20. Information about NBS’ Sharing Dance program was shared at the conference during a poster presentation.
Ideas Exchange 2014 with Sorella Englund - Professional Development for Dance Teachers
NBS' 2014 Ideas Exchange from July 15 – 18 will focus on strategies to develop expression and artistry in young dance students. Ideas Exchange 2014 will feature practical sessions with Sorella Englund, world renowned dramatic artist, teacher and repetiteur. Learn more and Register.
Want to Dance Day at NBS
NBS welcomed 50 talented young dancers (all dance competition winners from around Ontario) to its campus on Saturday, May 24 for a full day of activities. Dancers took a ballet class, had a tour of the School, took part in a Q&A with NBS PBP students and learned the Sharing Dance routine. Want to Dance Day was a great way for us to share NBS’ teachers and facilities with dancers from around the province!

Our 9 week Intro to Ballet class starts June 2. Registration is open online.
Associates Program
AP Closing Demonstrations are on June 7th & 8th. Class portraits are now available for ordering. They will be available for pick-up on Closing Demonstration weekend. 2014-2015 Registration for current students is underway.
Teacher Tribute Cards Now Available
NBS’ Teacher Tribute Program offers parents and students an opportunity to thank a teacher who has enriched a student’s experience at NBS. The Shoe Room Summer Hours
The Shoe Room will be starting its Summer Hours as of June 1st 2014. The Summer Hours will be in effect for the months of June, July, and August.
Tuesday – Friday: 11:00am – 6:00pm
Saturday: 11:00am – 5:00pm
Sunday and Monday: CLOSED
