Minister Shelly Glover visits NBS
Several students returned to NBS a few days early, to meet and share their experiences at the School with the Honorable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages. We were pleased to welcome her to NBS and look forward to her next visit.
Professional Ballet Program & Teacher Training Program
Residence for Professional Ballet Program students opens on Tuesday, September 2, and classes begin on Wednesday, September 3. The Teacher Training Program Orientation Day is Wednesday, September 3, and classes start on Thursday, September 4.
Community Programs
The Associates Program Orientation Day for new and returning students is Saturday, September 6. Classes commence on Monday, September 8. Adult Ballet Term I begins September 2. Registration is open online. View our Term I schedule for classes.

Dancing with Parkinson’s at NBS

Dance Teacher Training Information Days
NBS is inviting senior advanced ballet students from dance programs to attend NBS’ Teacher Training Program Days (TTP Days) on September 19 and 20, 2014. To learn more about TTP Days, visit here. You can also watch videos about NBS’ Teacher Training Program on our YouTube channel.
National Audition Tour 2014-15
Each fall NBS artistic staff travel across the country, holding Open Classes and Auditions as part of our annual National Audition Tour. We’re thrilled once again, that Sun Life Financial as part of their Making the Arts More Accessible® program will be sponsoring the Tour. Check the website for dates and locations later this month. Registration will open September 10.
Cineplex Front Row Centre Ballet Series
The ballet film series begins again in September Matthew Bourne’s The Sleeping Beauty showing on September 24 and 27. NBS’ Cheryl Belkin Epstein will once again provide a video introduction to the live-streamed productions – check here for the full schedule.
The Shoe Room
The Shoe Room will be moving to Fall hours effective September 2nd: Tuesday to Friday: 11am to 6pm, Saturday: 10am to 5pm, Sunday: 12pm to 5pm. Pointe shoe fittings book up very quickly in the back to school rush! Please book your fitting as far in advance as possible, and consider booking your appointment during a weekday. Culture Days, September 27 & 28
NBS is once again participating in Culture Days, a weekend-long festival offering free, participatory arts events across Canada! Join us on Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, September 28 for the chance to watch our students in class as well as the option to learn ballet yourself! We’re offering classes for all ages, visit Culture Days to learn more and register now .
Aging, Photography exhibition, September 15
A photo exhibition featuring Canadian photographers depicting lives of seniors will open at the Royal Bank Plaza in Toronto, September 15 – October 6. “Ballet Bob” was photographed by Peter Martin, teaching Adult Ballet student, Jacqueline Tarne. His photo can also been seen in the magazine Comfort life, out now.
Scotiabank’s Nuit Blanche, October 4
NBS will be hosting two independent projects for Scotiabank’s Nuit Blanche the night of October 4. Peggy Baker Dance Projects, The Perfect Word will be in the Betty Oliphant Theatre, while Siavash Vazirnezami and Matthew Koniuszewski’s Atlas will be seen outside the Resource Centre on Jarvis Street.
Creative Dance for the Very Young, October 26
Mary Ann Lee, Director of the Virginia Tanner Creative Dance Program and the Children’s Dance Theatre at the University of Utah will give two demonstration classes and workshops on Sunday, October 26, 10am – 1pm and 2 – 5pm. One is for 2 ½ - 3 ½ years, the other for 4 – 5 year olds. Check the website for registration information. Registration for the Mary Ann Lee workshops will open on September 3.
