Nina Shapilsky
Pianist
Nina is a versatile musician, equally adept in improvisation, classical, folk and jazz, She is a graduate of Gorky State University of Music (Russia) having earned both a master’s degree in piano and a PhD in composition. During her illustrious career as a performer and artistic/musical director, Nina has won many music competitions and international festival awards worldwide. Nina’s credits as a composer include winning the International Composers competition in Hungary, composing five musicals, and creating documentary soundtracks for ‘The Dance of Mikhail Baryshnikhov’, Lovers on the Bridge’, and ‘Canadian Champion in the Making’. Since 1996, Ms. Shapilsky has been a pianist with the National Ballet of Canada, and she joined the NBS artistic faculty in 2006. In collaboration with choreographer Evelina Karsnova-Ganina, Nina composed and arranged original music for 15 character dances - most recently ‘Canadiana’ in celebration of Canada’s 150th year.
