Courses for Dance Teachers

Enrich your dance teaching education

Our part-time Professional Development Program offers dance teachers the opportunity to augment their experience, enhance their skills and add to their teaching qualifications.


The program runs for 30 weeks and may include courses such as Anatomy, Cecchetti Ballet and Pedagogy, Conditioning, Creative Dance, History of Art, History of Dance, Music, National Dance, NBS Curriculum, and RAD Ballet and Pedagogy. All Professional Development students choose their courses from the Teacher Training Program calendar.

 

All course selections must be approved by the Program Manager prior to registration.

Registration for the 2023-2024 school year will open in Summer 2023.

Anatomy

An in-depth study of functional human anatomy as it applies to the needs of the dancer and the dance teacher, providing a basic understanding of the structure and function of the human body.

Benesh Movement Notation

Introduces Benesh Dance Notation, emphasizing the abilities to read, write and interpret notated dance.

History of Art

The study of visual art as away of developing the dance teacher's eye for fine line, form and style. Focuses on building general knowledge about art and artists and how to interpret and evaluate their work.

Music I

An introduction to music theory concepts. Emphasizes the skills required to work effectively with a musician and to integrate musical forms into practical dance class situations.

Cecchetti Intermediate

Introduces the Cecchetti syllabus at the Intermediate level. Emphasizes artistry, style and technique and provides preparation for an externally assessed exam with the Cecchetti Society.

History of Ballet I

Focuses on the development of dance from its original manifestations in primitive ritual through its development as the theatrical art form up to the end of the Romantic Period.

Pedagogy I Cecchetti

Studies the syllabus of the Cecchetti Society. Focuses on developing a technical and stylistic understanding of the material covered in Grades 1-6.

Pedagogy I RAD

Studies the syllabus of the Royal Academy of Dance Pre Primary-Grade 5 and Intermediate Foundation. Emphasizes the systemic and logical progression of dance movements in the RAD syllabus.

Voice

A seminar course that studies voice as a tool of communication and expression in the teaching environment. Focuses on training the mouth, diaphragm and vocal chords and producing a well modulated voice.

Entrance Requirements

Admission begins with an initial meeting with our TTP Manager, Carmen Cairns; in some cases it also requires attending a ballet class. To schedule a meeting or for more information please contact our TTP Artistic Administrator.
