This training course is designed for dance teachers who are interested in working with Older Adults. The hybrid, online and in-person training, will support teachers in offering meaningful dance classes to Older Adults living with physical and/or cognitive challenges including those living with Dementia.

This intensive course includes:

An online course (approximately 6 hours)

A five day in-person intensive including observation, lectures and teaching practicum. Trainees will have the opportunity to interact directly with Older Adults living in Long term care

2023-24 dates for the in-person component: November 6-10

The cost of the course (both online and in-person components) is $800 CAD including HST. Please note this does not include travel, meals, or accommodation.
Course Objectives and Learning Outcomes:

Develop a general understanding of the physical and cognitive changes associated with ageing

Explore how programming for Older Adults is offered in long-term care facilities

Learn and put into practice the Baycrest NBS Sharing Dance Older Adults program protocols

Experience teaching dance to Older Adults living in long-term care

Network and collaborate with passionate dance teachers and health professionals including feedback and discussion to further develop teaching skills

Further understand the impact of music , and explore appropriate musical selections

Gain valuable information to help prepare you to set up classes in your community
