dance at home with kids

At Canada’s National Ballet School (NBS), we know that dance is a powerful, yet underutilized tool for education, health and well-being across all spectrums of Canadian society. For kids, creative movement supports the development of the whole child, fostering expression, collaboration and creativity while developing fundamental aspects of physical literacy. Below you will find a range of resources developed by NBS' dance experts, to help kids discover the joy of creative movement—all in fun and engaging activities that are easy to do in a variety of settings.

Why Dance?
Dance encourages kids to work from their own experiences and abilities, communicating thoughts, emotions and ideas through movement. Dance develops important skills like:

  • Exploring ideas through the creative process
  • Using movement to tell stories
  • Building self-confidence and a personal identity
  • Collaborating and working with a group
  • Learning and practicing the elements of dance
  • Cross-curricular and integrated learning

Online Creative Movement Resources
