NBS Gala: Kaleidoscope

A Bold Vision for the Future of Ballet.

We invite you to join us for this not-to-be-missed event on April 30, 2026, in support of Canada's National Ballet School (NBS).

The Gala will bring together our community of supporters for a memorable evening celebrating the vibrant future of ballet. Like a kaleidoscope, ballet is in constant motion. With every turn, perspectives shift, colours reconfigure, and new possibilities emerge.

Together, we will shape a bold vision of ballet that reflects the world looking through it: diverse, vibrant, and radiant with possibility.

Gala Highlights

Professional Ballet Program Student Performance

A special performance by NBS' Professional Ballet Program students featuring the following pieces:

Milagros Phillips

Une pièce pour l'occasion choreographed by Young Joo Lee and Talar Margarosyan. Featuring Grade 6 students, this joyful, original classical work created exclusively for the NBS Gala showcases how young dancers uplift each other and work as a team to pursue their passion for ballet. This lively piece features musical excerpts from Johann Strauss I’s Kettentanz, arranged and accompanied by pianist Tanya Gordon.

Excerpt from Peggy Baker’s Brahms Waltzes .The deep and complex emotions of a young woman poised on the threshold of great change are captured in this early work by one of the country’s most prominent female choreographic voices. Accompanied by pianist Marina Surgan.

Excerpt from Silas Farley’s Werner Quintet. Students will perform this exciting new work by Silas Farley, to a newly commissioned score by Kyle Werner. Accompanied by pianist Jill Daley.

Live Piano Vocals

By Avery Raquel

Milagros Phillips

Avery Raquel is a Canadian Alternative Soul artist whose music fuses vintage soul, R&B, jazz, and pop into a modern, emotionally resonant sound. With a voice that defies her age and songwriting that blends vulnerability with maturity, Avery delivers a refreshing take on soul-infused storytelling.

In 2020, Avery charted at #30 on Billboard, further displaying her prowess as a passionate songwriter and performer.

Her 2022 self-titled album Avery Raquel debuted at #5 on the Canadian iTunes Top 200 R&B/Soul chart. The album’s success was further cemented when five of its tracks were finalists in the 2022 John Lennon Songwriting Competition, with one winning the Grand Prize.

Known for her commanding stage presence and genre-blending sound, Avery Raquel continues to carve a space that is unmistakably her own — honest, heartfelt, and deeply soulful.

Support the Future of Dance

The 2026 NBS Gala: Kaleidoscope will raise vital funds to ensure that every talented young dancer with the ambition and drive to succeed at Canada’s National Ballet School can do so, regardless of financial means.

Each year, NBS welcomes students from across Canada and around the world, offering the highest standard of dance education and wraparound supports—from academic and emotional care to physiotherapy and nutrition. Yet tuition covers only a quarter of the actual cost of this training, and nearly 70% of students require financial assistance to pursue their dreams.

This year, those needs total $4.7 million.

This Gala is your invitation to take a leadership role as a sponsor, table host, ticket purchaser, or event supporter. Your support will help open doors for gifted young artists to thrive without barriers and help carry forward NBS’ enduring belief in the power of dance.
