Alejandra Perez-Gomez received her ballet training at the École Supérieure de Ballet du Québec and the San Francisco Ballet School. Upon graduation, she joined the National Ballet of Canada, where she danced for 25 years as a second soloist and principal character artist. Throughout her career as a soloist, Alejandra danced a wide range of featured roles from the NBOC’s vast classical and neoclassical repertoire, including works by Petipa, Bournonville, Ashton, Balanchine, Tetley, Kudelka, Neumeier, Ratmansky, and Wheeldon. As a principal character artist, Alejandra portrayed many dramatic characters such as Lady Capulet in Alexei Ratmansky’s Romeo and Juliet, Carabosse in Nureyev’s Sleeping Beauty, and The Stepmother in James Kudelka’s Cinderella. In her last five years with the NBOC, Alejandra also served as a guest rehearsal director and stager for ballets such as Sir Peter Wright’s Giselle, James Kudelka’s Nutcracker and Cinderella, Nureyev’s Sleeping Beauty, and contemporary works by Robert Binet and Vanessa Montoya. Alejandra joined NBS as a guest faculty member in 2023 and has also recently completed a BA in psychology from Queen’s University.
What do you do in your free time? I spend quality time with my husband and kids, read, knit, and volunteer as a crisis responder with Kids Help Phone.
Do you know any Toronto hidden gems? There’s a quirky place in our King west neighborhood called UFO; it is both a convenience store and small restaurant that serves great Vietnamese food and all-day breakfast.
Bucket list item: I’m extremely passionate about music but have never learned an instrument, so one of my bucket list items is to take piano lessons.
