Artistic Faculty; Director, Teacher Training and Community Dance
Ashleigh Powell is the Director of Teacher Training and Community Dance Programs at Canada’s National Ballet School and has been faculty in the Professional Ballet-Academic Program since 2011. A graduate of NBS’ Teacher Training program, she was honoured to receive the Carole Chadwick and Betty Oliphant Awards. In her role, she has the privilege of learning alongside emerging dance educators and collaborating with a broad range of multi-sectoral partners who share NBS’ commitment to making excellent, inclusive dance programs accessible to all Canadians. Before joining the NBS family, Ashleigh worked as a theatre choreographer, collaborating with independent and well-established companies (e.g., Soulpepper, Red One Theatre Collective, Hart House Theatre, Theatre Brouhahah). Ashleigh has an Honours BA in History and Sociology from the University of Toronto and is currently completing a Master’s in Public Administration through Dalhousie University.
