Emad Ghattas is a Principal at GBCA Architects with more than a decade of expertise in the conservation and reuse of existing and historic buildings. At GBCA, Emad guides clients through municipal planning approvals for projects that require the challenging balance between building conservation and new construction. He prepares reports in coordination with teams that include lawyers, engineers, planners, designers etc. and follows through during the design and construction stages. Recent projects in Toronto include the award-winning reconstruction of the Silver Dollar Room and the restoration of commercial 19th century facades integrated to the new Google headquarters on King Street East.  

 

Emad is a graduate of McGill University and the University of Waterloo. He holds professional memberships with the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA), the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP) and the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC). He is actively involved with the Toronto Society of Architects, where he leads walking architecture tours in an effort to promote Toronto's built environment to the public. 

 

At Canada’s National Ballet School, Emad joined the First Positions Patrons (FPP) in 2017, and has Co-chaired the FPP in 2020-2021. He is fluent in French and English.
