Vice President, Growth & Inclusion, Canada Media Fund

Joy Loewen is the Vice President, Growth & Inclusion at the Canada Media Fund, responsible for the development and implementation of the CMF's inclusion and growth strategies.

 

Before joining the CMF, Joy was CEO of the National Screen Institute where she led the creation of innovative and mentorship programs to expand the number of professional storytellers across Canada.

 

As a lifelong advocate for women and girls, Joy was a founding member of the team that launched the Women’s Television Network (now The W Network) in 1995 from its home base in Winnipeg. For over a decade she championed women’s leadership and excellence as a volunteer board member at Balmoral Hall, an independent all-girls school in Winnipeg serving two years as board chair.

 

Joy is a fiercely proud Manitoban and gives back to her beloved community through volunteerism. She brings her unmistakable energy to many organizations which presently include The Winnipeg Foundation, the Order of Manitoba Advisory and the King’s Council Advisory.

 

Her innovative and collaborative spirit earned her the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal in 2022 in recognition of outstanding service to her province; Playback Canada’s Changemaker of the Year in 2023, East by Northwest’s 2024 Global Connector Award and Women in Film and Television’s 2024 Special Jury Award of Distinction.
