Simone O’Mathuna

Director, Facilities and Operations

Since joining NBS in December 2022, Simone O’Mathuna has been a driving force behind creating a campus environment that promotes safety, accessibility, and well-being for both students and staff. Her extensive background in operations and facilities management has been instrumental in aligning the school’s physical spaces with its mission of excellence and inclusivity.

Simone has consistently led complex projects to completion. One of her standout achievements includes finding, outfitting, and moving staff into a 5,600 square foot property in Vancouver within a challenging seven month timeframe. This project exemplifies her strengths in space optimization, process efficiency, and managing vendor relations—skills she now applies daily at NBS.

At NBS, Simone oversees all aspects of facilities management, from daily maintenance to long-term development. She leads and mentors the facilities staff, cultivating a team that is both efficient and aligns with the school’s goals. As the co-chair of the school’s health and safety committee, she helps maintain a secure environment for the entire NBS community. Additionally, Simone contributes to the strategic planning committee with the development of the school’s long-term operational plans.

Before joining NBS, Simone held key operations roles at several organizations. At Sid Lee, she served as Director of Operations. Her roles at Invesco, Deloitte, Cossette, and Rogers Media further honed her skills in facilities management and project leadership. Across these positions, Simone consistently demonstrated her ability to efficiently manage complex operations and drive continuous improvement.

Throughout her career, Simone has been a champion for DE&I. Her DE&I achievements include co-chairing the J.E.D.I Program at Sid Lee and assisted in launching a bursary for BIPOC students at OCAD University. At NBS, she supports the school’s broader DE&I initiatives, as co-chair of the EDI committee.

Mentorship is another key focus for Simone. She mentors young women through the Black Business and Professional Association, guiding their professional growth. She is also a longtime member of IFMA and Toronto CREW.

Outside of work, Simone enjoys traveling, spa visits, and theater – especially productions like Hamilton and Come From Away. A movie theater enthusiast, she never misses out on the popcorn!
