Discover Olympian Rachael Karker's relationship with dance

We’re getting into the Olympic spirit at Canada’s National Ballet School and  re-visiting a special interview we had with Olympian Rachael Karker in 2022. Rachael Karker won a bronze medal for Freestyle Skiing at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and is competing again for Team Canada in this year's Winter Olympics in Milan. What you might not know, is that Rachael is also an alum of our Young Dancers Program! Rachael points to dance—including her time at NBS—as an important part of her sporting career that set her up for success on and off the slopes.

Watch the video below to hear Rachael share her experience at NBS and the impact that dance had on her athletic career.

The NBS Young Dancers Program (formerly the Associates Program) is a part-time ballet and dance program designed specifically for children and youth ages 3-17, with an emphasis on cultivating talent, passion, and a life-long love for ballet and dance. It provides lasting foundations for physical and artistic engagement, as well as social and emotional development using a holistic, innovative curriculum created by our expert teachers.

The Young Dancers Program offers two streams of programming—Intensive Ballet and Open Dance—which allows each student to choose the pathway that suits them best!

This video was originally created as part of a spring appeal to raise funds for the School’s greatest areas of need—from financial aid for students to accessible community programming for all ages. If you would like to learn more about the various ways you can support NBS, click here.
