Remembering Peter Herrndorf

October 27, 1940 - February 18, 2023

Canada’s National Ballet School is saddened to learn of the recent passing of Peter Herrndorf. One of the most influential and visionary arts executives of his generation, Peter cared deeply about public service, working tirelessly to making the arts accessible to all, and broadly and positively impacting the Canadian arts and culture sector for his whole career, notably, in his role as President and CEO of the National Arts Center for almost 20 years. NBS’ Artistic Director and CEO, Mavis Staines, was honoured to receive the 2021 Peter Herrndorf Arts Leadership Award, sharing in his values of working collaboratively toward a greater good and for finding ways to share dance with Canadians of all ages and abilities. Peter’s legacy will live on through numerous and unparalleled contributions to Canadian arts and artists. From all of us at NBS, we send our deepest condolences to Peter’s family and to all who are inspired by his work.
