The Professional Dancers' Program at Canada’s National Ballet School is designed to guide professionals into new careers as educators, artistic directors and beyond. A One Year Certificate or a Two Year Diploma Program is available to professional dancers with at least five years' experience in a classically based company.
The curriculum includes a broad range of dance-related subjects. The complete list of courses required for both the One Year Certificate and the Two Year Diploma Program can be found below. Students in the Professional Dancers' Program also closely observe and assist NBS Faculty members with daily ballet classes from Monday to Saturday. (Note: Part-time study may be available upon approval from the course manager). Both Professional Dancers' Programs are approved as vocational programs under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005.
Graduates receive the TTPPD (Cert) NBS or TTPPD (Dip) NBS.
The following courses are required for both the 1-Year Certificate & the 2-Year Diploma Progam:
- Ballet Technique
- NBS Curriculum I, II & III
- Teaching Methodology in Action (includes 2 AP Assisting credits and 6 FT Assisting credits)
- Voice (15 week seminar)
- Workshop series
Students enrolled in the the Two-Year Diploma Program will take the following additional courses:
- Cecchetti ballet (1 term)
- Royal Academy of Dance ballet (1 term)
- Addtional Music Courses
- NBS Curriculum IV
- NBS Curriculum mentorship (as a Teaching Assistant)
- Teaching Methodology in Action (includes 6 FT Assisting credits)

The Professional Dancers' Program is available to adults 18 years of age and above who have completed Grade 12 (OSSD or equivalent) and who have previous professional experience including 5 years in a classically-based company.
Admission to the Professional Dancers' Program begins with an initial meeting with TTP Manager, Carmen Cairns. To schedule a meeting, please email TTP Artistic Administrator, Sheena Cater email@example.com prior to March 31st, 2022.
From there, the candidate will attend a two day virtual seminar held in May 2022. During these two days, candidates will have classes in classical ballet, pointe work, repertoire, character, music, creative dance/drama, and personal interviews with NBS staff. This evaluation period allows NBS staff to assess the candidates suitability for the Teacher Training Program commencing September 2022. Candidates from countries whose official languages do not include English may be asked to provide the Manager of the Teacher Training Program with scores from an international testing system, such as TOEFL or IELTS during the seminar.
