Globe and Mail Feature: Meet Three Graduates Taking Their Next Leap
Three of our Professional Ballet Program students were recently featured in The Globe and Mail. Hear from new graduates Sienna, Ocean and Sidney as they navigate the exciting transition from their final high school year at Canada’s National Ballet School to the next stage of their journey.
For today’s dancers, that transition looks very different from graduates even a decade ago. The dance landscape has evolved significantly, as ballet companies have diversified their repertoire, requiring dancers to be both physically and mentally prepared to meet the demands of taking on a rigorous schedule of varied repertoire they will encounter from traditional ballet works, as well as contemporary and modern works.
As a result, a typical pathway for many dancers graduating Grade 12 is acceptance into a post-secondary training program that prepares them for these evolving industry expectations. Highly competitive programs, like NBS’ Company Life Program, provide dancers with the opportunity to develop the maturity, strength and versatility needed for a career at a professional company, while continuing to learn within a supportive educational environment. Artistic Directors of dance companies today rely on these bridge programs to prepare dancers who are ready to take on the rigours of modern company life.
